Book as early as you can, ideally in September or October. Installation dates fill up through October and November, and getting on the calendar before Thanksgiving gives you the widest choice of dates for your Kansas City home.

Why Fall Fills Up Fast

Every home in the Kansas City metro wants its lights up before Thanksgiving, and a crew can only design and install so many homes each week. As October and November move along, the earliest available dates go first, which pushes anyone who waits later into whatever's left on the schedule. Homeowners who book in September or early October tend to get first pick of dates, while requests that come in closer to Thanksgiving are working with a shorter list of open slots.

This isn't unique to Christmas lights. Any outdoor seasonal service that has a hard deadline, like leaf removal or holiday decor, sees the same crunch once the weather turns and the calendar starts counting down. The difference with lights is that the deadline is fixed: everyone wants their display ready before family arrives or the neighborhood starts decorating, so demand concentrates into a few short weeks every fall.

Weather Is Another Reason to Book Early

Kansas City fall weather is unpredictable, and installing lights is easier and safer before the first hard freeze or an early ice storm moves through. Roofs, gutters and trees are simpler to work around in October than after a cold snap, and an early booking gives your installer more flexible days to schedule around whatever the forecast does. Waiting until late November leaves less room to work around a stretch of bad weather.

From Quote to Install

Once you request a design, an installer reviews your home, puts together a design for your roofline and any trees or shrubs you want lit, and schedules a crew to install everything with commercial-grade lights, clips and hidden wiring. Booking early means your install date lands earlier in the season instead of later, and you're not waiting to enjoy your display. See the full walkthrough, from the first photo you send to the day everything comes down, on how it works.

Because the design step comes before installation, sending a photo of the front of your home as early as possible helps too. It lets an installer plan your roofline, peaks and any landscaping ahead of time, so once your date arrives, the crew can move straight into installation instead of figuring out the layout on site.

What If You're Booking Late in the Season?

If you're reading this in November or later and haven't booked yet, reach out anyway. Late-season installation dates may still be available depending on the calendar, though we can't promise a specific date the closer it gets to the holidays. The sooner you request a quote, the better your odds of getting on the schedule this year. Waiting rarely helps: the calendar only gets tighter as Thanksgiving approaches, so the fastest way to find out what's still open is to ask directly rather than guess.

Returning Customers Book Differently

If A Plus installed your display last season, you don't need to start over with a new design and quote. Returning customers can schedule reinstallation directly on our returning customer page, and your same custom-cut lights go back up on your home. Booking your reinstallation early still matters for returning customers too, since the same fall schedule applies every season.

What Happens After the Holidays

Takedown happens after the holidays, usually in January. Everything is removed, labeled and stored until next season, so you don't have to think about ladders or storage once the season ends.

Booking Early Also Means a Better Design Conversation

An early request gives an installer time to actually think through your home's roofline, peaks and any trees or shrubs you want lit, instead of rushing a design to hit a tight deadline. That extra time can go toward getting your color choices and layout right the first time, rather than settling for whatever fits the schedule. It also means any back-and-forth about your design, like adding a wreath or deciding between warm white and multicolor, happens with room to spare instead of under pressure.
